December 1, 2011I'm finally getting a chance to breathe after a very busy summer and fall. I began the summer with an incredible trip to the Prague Quadrenniel of Design. The trip was sponsored by the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative (one of the departments of the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage in Philly), and I was one of seven designers selected to be on the trip. It was an incredible experience, and I felt so fortunate to be a part of it. I kept busy throughout the summer, designing two Shakespeare in the Parks, working as a sound / music dramaturge for PlayPenn New Play Development Conference, and heading up to the Berkshires for a play in their Fringe Festival. This fall, in addition to designing Lady M for the Philly Live Arts Festival and Act A Lady for Azuka Theater, I spent a month dedicated to sound designing, composing, and musical directing the American premiere of Our Class at The Wilma. This production was incredibly special to me. It was bold, touching and beautiful, smart, poignant, and simply brave for a theater of The Wilma's caliber. Before I got far from The Wilma, I was back to design my third Bearded Ladies Cabaret, this time a Civil War themed cabaret entitled Wide Awake.I look forward to more exciting plays and musicals this spring, including my first opportunities working as composer, designer, and musical director at both The Arden Theatre and Peoples Light And Theater Company!March 28, 2011I've been lucky to have a lot of work this spring, and though it's been overwhelming at times, I have a lot to be proud of. At the moment, I'm keeping busy working on a musical that has become very important to me. As the orchestrator, musical director, and sound designer, I have had my hands in a little bit of everything. In particular, I always love working with singers and conducting a band, which I don't get to do all that often these days. See my links page for more details!I've also been busy lining up my next season, including productions with The Wilma Theater, The Lantern Theater, EgoPo, and others. Such an exciting beginning!November 19, 2010I just finished three days of Meyer Sound workshops: two days on System Design with Steve Bush, and one day on Mixing with Buford Jones. The whole thing was unbelievably informative and inspiring. It was beautiful watching Buford Jones mix, and hearing some of the mixes he's performed for Pink Floyd and others (his resume is a kind of Who's Who of rock music in the last 40 years). I feel really grateful for all of the tips, lessons, and education I picked up and can't wait to apply it to my work!
